Wilhelm von Gloeden (1856-1931)
Wilhelm von Gloeden is the only photographer, with his cousin Pluschow and Galdi to have immortalized all these ragazzis in Sicily of the late 19th and early 20th century.
In Taormina mainly, in his house-workshop where he received collectors from all over the world.
Some shots of Gloeden are often taken on his terrace, in his beautiful garden. He also occasionally crossed the Piazza San Domenico to go opposite, in the cloister of San Domenico. Still abandoned until 1896, it will be transformed into a hotel later. Some images of Gloeden are taken around the well and columns of the cloister.
Wilhelm von Gloeden has so much put back in beauty all these boys by his art. He photographed them at different ages, it is the case of «fetish» models that we often find: Virgilio, Pietro, Pasqualino, Peppino, Nino, and others.
All have become «heroes» of antiquity.
They are coming back to us and collectors from all over the world are picking up their beautiful photos which are increasingly collected.
Famous Wilhelm von Gloeden, you left us
“Wonders”.
I have some copies of my book with many photos of the 3: Gloeden, Pluschow, Galdi. But there is a biography and many pictures of Gloeden.
